"The Trench"

Last Sunday, Brent kept talking about this trench he needed to dig. I didn't really pay it much attention and then around 5:30 that night he went outside. I walked out the front door about an hour later to see this....

"trench" going through the middle of our yard. Enjoy some more views to get the full effect...

I ABOUT DIED!! Seriously, a trench through the middle of our front yard (Brent standing beside it all happy and proud)? Okay, so I start flipping out a little and Brent is trying to explain that this is a French drain to divert water from somewhere to another....who knows. I'm not I'm still flipping out. And I could literally see the pride disappearing off his face and the happiness becoming angry.....So, I was really trying to regroup (like a good wife and all)---and that's when he said it, just as serious as could be........

"Ramey, we could lose our house"

I did the whole, tilt my head to the side--crinkle up my nose--and I seriously looked at him after a substantial silence and said...that is going to be the title of my next blog! We both couldn't help sharing a good old-fashioned belly laugh after all that transpired in the mere 5 minutes since I had walked outside!! It really was hysterical.

But, anyways, it's been 10 days and nothing has changed....there is still a huge trench going through the middle of our yard, just as I suspected it would. Sorry neighbors....we promise you'll be happy with the end results...whenever that might be.

One last picture to show this French drain in action....IT WORKS!! and Brent promises we'll be able to grow grass over it once he finishes it.

It's that time again..

To begin a new calender. If that doesn't make sense (not Jan. 1st)...I use an academic calender and it has to be a specific one (I'm very picky and it doesn't change)---the Weekly At-a-Glance (I had to go to the UT bookstore today--to get the "right" one). Does anyone else just LOVE starting a new calender? I absolutely love it. I LOVE going through the old one....transferring all birthdays, anniversaries, holidays to their new spot in the next year. It's basically a time of reflection of everything we've done in the last year. And the same time....looking forward to all the things you are putting in the new calender/next year. I mean, I was looking forward to my birthday in November as I was writing it down today. I wonder what we will do?!?!?! My calender is the only way I remember birthdays, appts, etc. It doesn't ever leave the house, but I "glance" at it often throughout the week. I have consistently kept a calender since like the 7th grade and have LOVED this feeling since way back then. Anyways, this may be weird, but it's definitely a highlight in my life and I thought I would share!! I'll refrain from the Happy New Year!

Turned 6 mths old today.....well, there is a little discrepancy because I thought he was born on Jan. 18th (that's when the guy emailed me to say they were born) but the paper he gave us when we picked Smoky up says Jan. 19th...SO, I'll just go with the 19th since that is when the vet is (although I think he just forgot/didn't care/messed up).
A man's best friend. I now usually go on 2 walks a day--I've met probably 3/4ths of our neighborhood---and made some new friends that otherwise I would not have. I love taking him to parks and rivers to play. I love knowing he is sleeping right outside our bedroom door. And he is SO STINKING CUTE.
Also got to mention...Puppies are a lot of work. Poop and Pee cleaning. If its raining or wet outside, it comes in the it's either give the dog a bath or clean the floors and couch....usually both! And of course, it's been really rainy here in Knoxville this Spring. I always have to get up by 7:15 to take the dog out. On numerous occasions, I have had to chase the little booger down the street barefoot in my pajamas (never happy when this happens) Not to mention the money....he's like a pit!! I think this might be our one and only puppy, seriously!
We really do love this little guy. He is so funny and smart. He loves the water, is pretty much completely house broken (hallelujah), can fetch and did I mention he is SO STINKING CUTE!!
I think you are getting neutered.....SURPRISE!!!

Friday Funny

Papa Don emailed Brent this video a while back...saying the red head kid reminded him of Brent when he was little! I was lucky enough to be sitting next to Brent on the couch when he watched it---I think it is hysterical!! Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Mazel Tov!!

Brent and I went to Dallas, TX over the 4th holiday weekend for Annie and Scott's wedding. We stayed at the Ritz Carlton (my first time ever) and needless to say we lived like the rich and famous from Friday 3pm to Sunday 3pm.

The Boys...on the way to the rehearsal dinner.

Their hot dates for the evening!!

Paul and Mamie aka our roomates

Saturday, we spent the day sunning and drinking. Mamie and I even took a little break and enjoyed the Ritz's spa and I got the best massage I have ever had!!

Best Buds!

Group shot.

I think this next picture is hysterical. Can you tell who's responsible for bringing the drinks...and that person is of course bombarded by our group. Don't feel bad for him though, they had like a $3 service charge on all the drinks that were already like $12 a piece! Then...there is the couple on the left making out....get a room(we didn't know these people)!

On to the wedding. These pictures don't do it justice, but it was the most over the top, nicest wedding I have ever been to. Here are just a couple of pictures, but they don't do it justice.

This was the "ice bar" during the cocktail hour after the ceremony.

The center pieces were unreal...

My place setting..."Good Evening Ramey Hardin"....Get ready for the five course meal to follow...served to you by people in white gloves with ear pieces in!!! :-)

My Love...

Roomate shot....I think we should continue this tradition, even when we are so rich we can afford our own room for the weekend!!

Some of the festivities...

Lots of dancing...

Getting late...

Later...almost time to go home!

We had the best time!! And are so excited for Annie and Scott...MAZEL TOV!! Monday morning was back to reality!!

This is not a joke!!! In the medical world---July 1st marks the new year. For us, it means the end of Brent's intern year and the beginning of his Urology career!! Woo Hoo...What a milestone! This last month, Brent has been on nights, and it was beginning to take its toll. Needless to say, I am so excited, hopefully we can have a somewhat normal rountine again.

Congrats B!! And congrats to everyone else whose made it too!! And good luck to the incoming MDs!!

We are headed to Dallas this weekend for Scott and Annie's wedding.....and I can't think of a better way to celebrate then this black tie affair ( drinks, free food, good friends, and some dancing). Looking forward to it!!
